Community Engagement for Councillors

This course has been developed to support, complement and enhance the community involvement and engagement skills that many local authority members have developed themselves over the course of their public service. Newly elected members, who have not yet had time to develop such skills, have found the course a valuable foundation and practical "foot up" in their roles as community representatives. Senior council officers have also benefited from the course, using some of the techniques in their day to day work.

All the tools and techniques used on the course have been developed by NIF in its work with communities across the UK. These tools and techniques have been tested and proven across a wide spectrum of communities such as the very urban ones of inner London; the very rural communities of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland; the culturally and ethnically rich and diverse communities of Birmingham; and in very divided communities such a Newtownhamilton in Northern Ireland.
