Whitmore Reans in Partnership (WRiP) is a community based network located in the North West of the City of Wolverhampton. The area of Whitmore Reans has a multi-cultural population consisting largely of Muslim, Sikh, and African Caribbean communities. The area has high deprivation floor targets and has been designated as an area in need of Neighbourhood Renewal.
The core group of 10 voluntary representatives from the Christian, Muslim and Sikh communities came together to receive training in “Planning for Real”® as a way of progressing the work of the partnership in using consultation as a process of identifying real local issues and ideas for change. The training was designed to ensure that it not only helped the partnership as a whole but also to develop individual skills.
The main “Planning for Real”® consultation was a great success with over 2000 issues or ideas raised. WRiP also developed one of the largest “Planning for Real”® models ever produced in the history of the Foundation. This highlighted what can be achieved when local people come together and work towards a common goal.
This project has had a very high profile as a result of both their “Planning for Real”® consultation and their commitment. WRiP has recently been visited by John Prescott, who showed a strong interest in the process.
