Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation wins a Planning ‘Oscar’
The Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation has been recognised for its work with communities and planners by the Royal Town Planning Institute at their national awards ceremony.
Over the last 30 years NIF, based in Telford, has been working with residents from many areas across the UK using the ‘Planning for Real’ method to engage with residents in many hard to reach groups and enable them to make decisions that affect the look and feel of their surroundings.
The RTPI award recognises the work NIF have been doing in pioneering the Planning for Real concept and its success in improving neighbourhoods across the country.
Graeme Bell, Chair of Trustees at NIF said ‘The Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation is delighted to receive this prestigious RTPI award, the Oscars of the town planning world, for the work it has done over many years in giving communities a voice in planning decisions that affect them.’
‘Our use of ‘Planning for Real’ as a means of making planning understandable and accessible to all groups of the community in both town and country, has now received well deserved national recognition. At a time of increasing development pressures - from wind farms to housing estates, new settlements to the redevelopment of small suburban sites, it is the people most closely affected who need to know their views count. NIF’s mission is to deliver on that promise, so that no decision is taken without the local voice being heard.’
